Distribution of Vacant Houses and Farmers’ Consciousness in Rural China.
A Case Study on Jiangxi Province<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Vacant homes have become an increasing issue worldwide, including in Japan and China, where population decline and aging contribute to a rise in empty houses. These properties disrupt local landscapes, pose structural risks like building collapse, and erode community vitality. In regions rich with traditional architecture, the problem also threatens cultural preservation. Although rural areas hold potential for local revitalization, the vacant home issue remains largely unresolved, highlighting the need for active community involvement as a critical part of sustainable solutions. This study focuses on the presence of vacant homes and the awareness of homestead management among residents in Xuwan Village, Jiangxi Province, China. A survey of 345 households reveals a complex mix of both modern and traditional vacant homes in the area. Using a logistic regression model, the study examines factors affecting farmers\u2019 decisions to give up homestead rights, including household size, living arrangements, and ownership of vacant properties. Findings show how these factors shape residents\u2019 willingness to relinquish homestead rights, offering insights for policies on effective land use and cultural preservation. This research contributes valuable perspectives on rural homestead management and provides guidance for improving the process of relinquishing homestead rights.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n\n\n\n
